Settlers, Inc. Programs

Settlers, Inc. offers a series of "hands-on" history programs. Costumed instructors share their expertise in hand arts and related history. These programs are open to the public by advance registration. Programs may be taken individually for $15 for Settler members and $20 for non-members, or as a series of six included in the $60 Settler Hand Arts Series Membership.

2016-2017 Special Series of Classes features history and hand arts of our Indiana heritage. Plan to join us now! Six classes included in Settlers, Inc. Series Membership = $60. Individual classes are $20 per person for non-members.

Series Programs are open to anyone 14 years old or older (ages 14-18 must attend with an adult).

Advance reservations are required.

Morning Series – doors open at 9:00 a.m. for refreshments, program display and social time. Program is from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

1844 Swinney Homestead Open House - West Central Historic Homes Tour
The Homestead will be open for walk-through tours during the West Central Historic Home Tour hours of 11:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. No admission charge. (260) 424-7212.

September 17 & 18, 2016
Settlers' Pioneer Village - Johnny Appleseed Festival
10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturday; 10:00 a.m.–5 p.m. on Sunday. Johnny Appleseed/Archer Park, 1502 Harry W. Baals Drive, Fort Wayne, IN. Free admission; charge for parking. Costumed Settlers demonstrate black pot cooking and hand arts; Food Sales: Ham & Beans, Chicken Corn Chowder, Beef Stew, Apples & Caramel Sauce, Cornbread & Butter, Sassafras Tea & Lemonade, and Country Store Crafts and Dried Flowers.
You are invited to be a "Settler-for-a day" and volunteer for a few hours, a day, or the week-end to help in one of the areas, serving food, stoking fires, stirring stew pots or demonstrating a historic hand art, such as needlework, crochet, basketry, etc. —Make this a family affair—Men and children over 10 years of age, are also invited to help. Christmas 'At-Home' with the Swinney Sisters
The Settlers cordially invite you to visit the elegantly decorated Historic Swinney Homestead to celebrate the Christmas spirit and share a pot of tea with friends. Enjoy Hearthstone Ensemble music, syllabub, tasty savories and sweets, Victorian Christmas traditions, and unique items in the upstairs Gift Shop. Guided History Tour of Allen Co. Court House & Historic Swinney Homestead with Lunch

Herb and Perennial Plant Sale
Settlers' Herb and Perennial Plant Sale will be May 5, 10am - 4 pm in the Swinney House basement and on the west lawn. Proceeds from commercially grown plants and perennial diggings from local gardens support maintenance and restoration of the Homestead. Donations of perennial diggings are welcome-please label with plant name. Call (260) 338-0812 or (260) 637-8622 for more information.

Historic 1844 Swinney Homestead Open House
Fort Wayne's Historic Swinney Homestead, 1424 W. Jefferson Blvd., will be open on May 5 for walk through tours and refreshments from 10-4. No admission charge. (260) 424-7212. For "take home treats", Settlers will also have a "Bake Sale" in the kitchen.

Settlers' Second-Day Plant Sale
8 a.m. - noon; 1424 W. Jefferson Blvd.; Plant Sale proceeds support Settlers, Inc. maintenance and restoration of the Homestead.
